Public Authority of Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAF)

iies won the bid of "Sabah Al-Ahmad Nature Reserve" project, iies proposed to build an enterprise GIS system by:
- Collecting the needed spatial information from the field survey, high resolution satellite images, and existing maps and data sets.
- Creation and/or updating spatial information in Sabah Al-Ahmad nature reserve such as vegetation cover, topographic map, concrete blocks, refilled locations of piles of concrete blocks, filled oil trenches and any other military fortifications elements based on the recent high resolution satellite images and field survey.
- Producing high resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from the same type of the previous high resolution satellite images.
- Provide the decision/policy makers and planners with a very easy to use monitoring tool to support the rehabilitation of Kuwaiti habitats and ecosystems on short-term and long-term bases.
- Putting all data, field data collection progress, different data sets, maps, satellite images and project reports in a secured enterprise Geo-Database.
- iies also worked with Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources (PAAF) in "Delineation of Kuwait Environmental Rehabilitation Sites" project. The project involved UXO detection and building of GIS Database for new natural reserve sites with recent high resolution satellite images of ( Umm Niqa - Al-Huwailmiya - Al-Khuwaisat - Um Qudair - Wadi Al-Batin ) protected areas. The project was supervised by the Kuwait National Focal Point (KNFP).

Environment Public Authority (EPA) & Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS)
Remote sensing and GIS technology were used by iies in August 2010 to predict the effect of climate change on coral reefs of Kuwait. The sea surface temperature (SST) in summer of 2010 was above normal. That has led to coral reef bleaching not just in Kuwait, but also worldwide. Kuwait was the only country that predicted and monitored this event. The prediction and monitoring was undertaken by iies.
iies has supplied EPA (Kuwait) with temperature loggers (sensors) to monitor the temperature of sea water over coral reefs and also near the seabed around Cober Island (southern Kuwait). The measurements were taken hourly from May 2010 to the present. Satellite data processed with GIS-based methods was used to support the real measurements of sensors in the water. Remotely sensed data, GIS SST maps and ground temperature measurements were used to investigate the influence of El-Nino events (and climate change drivers) on the marine environment in Kuwait. In this project, iies succeeded in predicting the impact of the 2010 El-Nino event before it took place.
El-Nino has led to significant coral reef mortality in the region. This project was sponsored between the Environment Public Authority and Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS), iies was the coordinator for this project in Kuwait.

iies provided Environmental Public Authority (EPA) with high-resolution satellite images and ERDAS IMAGINE Remote Sensing software for eMISK project.
Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR)
iies supplied KISR with temperature loggers to investigate the heat flux between the sediments of Kuwait Bay and the water column. Also, IIES provide KISR with SuperPad (full function mobile GIS), SuperGIS Desktop (professional Desktop GIS) along with several SuperGIS extensions and also specialized GIS training. KISR has also implemented a SuperGIS online application (web-based application using a SuperGIS Server) to enhance the new technology applications. iies provided KISR with ERDAS imagine Remote Sensing software, which were used for geo-referencing, enhancement, and production of detailed land use.
iies also provided KISR with more than 10,000 square km of high resolution satellite data (Worldview 2 Satellite, 8 bands with 50 cm resolution) as part of this project.

Ministry of Public Works (MPW)
iies was contracted to build a GIS database of regional roads in Kuwait. Dar Aldowailah Engineering Consultants Company (the main contractor with MPW) choose iies to build the GIS data base for the regional roads in the southern part (section two) and the northern part (section one) of Kuwait.
Filed survey using high resolution satellite images (World View 2) with 50 cm spatial resolution- were used for 1276 square km of the project SuperGIS and ERDAS image analysis software was used for geo-referencing; enhancement; and production of detailed land use of the roads and entered into a data base, Final datasets were submitted in AutoCAD and GIS formats.

Awqaf- KOC
iies has developed an alternative energy system in Kuwait, The Company has patented successfully a geothermal energy (heat exchange) system that provides heat to water supplies in winter and cools water in summer. The development and field testing of the method was started since 2008 and monitored with hourly temperature measurements at various depths underground. Vertical temperature gradients were constructed and used to plan the optimum depth of burial of the heat-exchanger water pipes for Kuwait city and also for application in the desert of Kuwait.
The temperature gradients are great enough to be used for summer cooling and winter heating in Kuwait. iies designed, built and implemented a system that has been installed in three Mosques in Kuwait in association with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. The systems are working very well and providing equitable water temperatures all year round.
iies has signed a contract with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to install a heat exchanger system on the KOC campus. Results to date are better than expected in terms of heat exchange of domestic water supplies.
iies has worked with Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) in a project, The project was titled 'Excavation and Transportation of Heavily Oil-Contaminated Soil to Landfill in North Kuwait Area'. We provided KOC with high resolution satellite images, 50 cm accuracy. Our products were found "helpful in efficiently performing related works" by KOC.
iies also provided Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) with processed high-resolution satellite images for use in oil discoveries.

Ministry of Education
iies has successfully completed the "Ministry of Education" GIS enterprise project using SuperGeo Software packages. The ministry of education has targeted an enterprise GIS Desktop application to edit and display different indicators reports on multi-Spatial levels: National, Governorate & Districts levels. The application is used to calculate different educational indicators using the enterprise Oracle 11G database using SuperGIS Desktop. Then the user can publish calculated indicators on the GIS web portal of the Ministry of Education to be accessed: publically or privately (for staff of the ministry only). The Enterprise GIS web portal was implemented using recent web technologies and the newest GIS Web APIs by SuperGIS Server which is an enterprise GIS web mapping software. The ministry users can use the GIS web portal to publish indicators, search for educational facilities and produce GIS online reports.
Kuwait Municipality
iies completed a project with Kuwait Municipality the project titled “Development of Sand Quarries Sites in Kuwait” and the project had many phases.
* Phase I: The collection of information and data , and a review of previous studies related to the project, from Kuwait Municipality or governmental ministries or other non-governmental organizations, and to identify the sites for the field survey, conducting environmental studies and geotechnical preliminary, and the preparation of the field study methods of geotechnical evaluation of the selected sites with GIS and Remote Sensing and high resolution Satellite Images.
* Phase II: Geotechnical field study report.
* Phase III: Report of the regulations and the planning for all Sand Quarries Sites.
* Phase IV: Preparation and production of final reports and the final production of geographic information systems (GIS) Maps for all Sand Quarries Sites.
